Our crowdfunding campaign has started, and we have only 100 days to raise the funds for the educational materials we would like to create. Tengwood strives to raise local awareness about animal and environmental protection. This is done through an environmental education campaign for children and adults that combines our clean drinking water project with training about nature and environmental protection. Species conservation will only be truly sustainable/possible when local people/indigenous populations are the ones who can manage the protection of the rainforest and its inhabitants into the future.
Our campaign on crowdfunding was designed specifically to help finance educational materials for this project. A seires of posters are currently being designed in Switzerland. We will have them printed in Nigeria on waterproof and very stable material and will then be distributed to schools in support zone communities around the protected areas in Cross River region of Nigeria, including the Cross River National Park and the Afi and Mbe Mountains. These materials will provide teachers with a training tool, teaching children how to deal with nature and placing species protection in their hands. In addition to the schools, we will also hang posters in local communitieis, so that all peoples living around these protected areas will be informed about the importance of nature conservation. The posters are designed so that even residents who cannot read will understand them. A conservation game for children is also planned, so children can playfully learn how to deal with wildlife and water resources.
The Education Posters and Board Game include the following;
4 Posters about the importance of watersheds
1 Poster will address wildlife hunting
1 Poster will address the illegal timber trade
1 Poster will show which local animals are threatened and endangered and therefore need protection
1 Poster will specifically address the pangolin, because this animal is currently the most traded animal in the world
1 board game for children, that will be created primarily about the importance of waterways and the human activities that pollute and harm these waterways.
