Social Structure; The Adult Male
In a chimp group, there is typically a number of adult males and females. The males, like the females, spend much of their time foraging for food. Together, they protect the group from predators. A group of males sometimes go on patrols of the group’s territory. If a strange chimp comes into their territory, he or she may be in serious trouble – a group of males will attack a single male interloper. If it is a female, they might decide instead to include her in their group.
