Here at Tengwood.org, we are dedicated to helping save two unique primates found in Nigeria and Cameroon; the drill monkey and the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee. Our mission on this website is to provide up to date information on the status of these primates. We also provide information about our own and other's efforts to help preserve them in their natural habitat. With your help, we hope to return to fieldwork in Nigeria or Cameroon!

Tengwood Organization is trying to help stop the illegal trade in wildlife. We are currently working in Switzerland on a study of bushmeat smuggling into Swiss Airports, which will help document the problem of wild meat being illegally smuggled into Europe. A study in 2010 in Paris estimated that over 270 tonnes are smuggled each year into Charles de Gaulle airport. Our study is the first to look at this problem in Switzerland.

Using the example of the rhino horn, which is currently worth more than gold, the story gives a picture of how rhino conservation works on an international level - the balance between the demand from illegal trade and conservation efforts is is one of the most important aspects in saving species and is relevant to every species today. Did you see this article in the Zurich Unterlander on June 5th, 2012? The article is titled 'Kampf dem Buschfleisch-Import' which means 'Fight the import of bushmeat'. This article is in german (sorry but no translation is available yet), but explains how Customs Agents in Zurich and Geneva regularly confiscate bushmeat being smuggled into Swiss Airports via passenger luggage.
